About us
In 1968, Rev. (Fr.) Dr. Abel CMI, the visionary behind Kalabhavan, founded The Christian Arts Club in Cochin (now Kochi), Kerala, often referred to as "God’s Own Country." By 1969, Kalabhavan emerged as the formal, organised successor to the Christian Arts Club. Today, Kalabhavan stands as a unique institution on India's cultural map. It is both a landmark and a beacon in India’s cultural history, focusing on an unprecedented amalgamation of diverse cultural talents. Kalabhavan has played a significant role in promoting various forms of dance, music, art, and culture, bringing together artists of diverse skill sets, many of whom have graced international stages.
This prestigious institution has nurtured music legends such as Yesudas, S. Janaki, Sujatha, and South Indian superstars like Jayaram, Dileep, and renowned directors Siddique and Lal, among others. Kalabhavan has also earned international acclaim through its captivating stage programs, enthralling audiences worldwide for decades. With chapters across the globe, including the USA, UK, and the Middle East, Kalabhavan continues to expand its cultural footprint.
Kalabhavan London is the UK franchise of Cochin Kalabhavan, with a mission to promote a diverse range of talents in fine arts, dance forms (classical, contemporary, and folk), music (both classical and western), percussion, stringed instruments, drawing, and painting. Our goal is to nurture talent by providing the motivation, support, and platform needed for artists to flourish.
